Director Kim Ji Hoon‘s movie ‘Sector 7‘ has been released in China, and has set the highest box office record than any other Korean movie before!

According to investment distributor CJ E&M on the 19th, the movie opened at 4,000 movie theaters across China and raked in an impressive 23,800,000 Yuan (roughly 43,000,000 Korean Won, or 3.6 million USD). Ahead of the movie release, actress Ha Ji Won who plays the main character has visited Shanghai and Beijing in order to further promote the new film.

Ha Ji Won is a well-known actress in China for her roles in ‘Memories in Bali‘, as well as ‘Secret Garden‘, and therefore she played a large role in effectively advertising ‘Sector 7‘.

The movie was released in China on the 6th under the name ‘深海之戰’, and it was the #2 movie at the box office the first week, and was met with a similar response the second week as well.

‘Sector 7′ has been the most successful Korean movie to be released in China thus far, beating out ‘The Host‘ that previously raked in 16,000,000 Yuan, or 2.6 million USD.

Meanwhile, a CJ E&M representative remarked, “There are a lot of big movies that are being released in China this week, so we will have to wait and see if ‘Sector 7′ can continue to stay on top.”
