They are no longer just ‘the idols that Rain has put together‘, boy group MBLAQ has evolved and developed their own colors, stabilizing their place in the Korean music industry.
The boys received a lot of attention after debuting in 2009 for being the first idol group put together by singer Rain. Their mission was to work hard to appeal to the public, and become independent from their creator. And during the three years they have been in the industry, they have polished their own talents and charms. Member Lee Joon has been offered laughs with his wit on entertainment programs while G.O. showcased his explosive vocal talent on KBS 2TV‘s ‘Immortal Song 2‘, further representing for his boy group.
These boys released their new album ‘100% Version‘ on January 10th and unveiled their masculine charisma, especially with their ‘blade dance’ for their new song, “This is War“. The boys looked exhausted when OSEN caught up with them for an interview, but they looked sincere when they were introducing their new album.
Check out their interview below!
-Your new song is being met with a positive reaction.
“We feel great. This is the first title song we all chose unanimously. The song is about getting revenge, and we felt like a lot people wouldn’t be able to relate to it, but they were very supportive and we are very grateful (Seungho).”
-Lee Joon’s ‘gun shot’ performance seems to be the highlight of the choreography.
“We feel good about the performance. More than being satisfied with one major area of the dance, we like it because there’s a lot to see throughout the performance. There’s a lot of dramatic acting that went into it, and we knew that the one who could pull it off the best would be Lee Joon, and that’s why he took it on (Thunder).”
-This album was a project completely taken on by a producer. Are there any parts of the album the members worked on?
“This time, we completely left it up to the main producer. He gave us the songs for the album, but we felt that it was important for someone who saw us from a third person point of view to create our new look. But we did work on it a lot, too. We thought a lot about what we could do to pull off this new song, and thought a lot about the stage performance, talking a lot about the choreography (G.O.).”
-You guys recently started filming “Hello Baby”. How is your relationship with the children?
“It’s really arduous and exhausting. Haha. It might have been a little easier if they were a bit younger but the children know how to well express themselves and that somehow makes it a little more difficult. We are trying hard to introduce a bright and safe society for those children that grew up in a home with multiple cultures. I just hope that the show serves as an opportunity for these kids to see Korea in a different light, and break their prejudices (G.O.).”
-Is there a country you would like to break through in for the new year?
“Well, first we have 12 performances lined up for Japan and our Asia Tour. We’ve released a single in Japan before but we would be there to promote for maybe a week max. So we want to promote more in Japan and spend more time there. We’re so grateful that the Japanese fans give us so much support and love us for who we are, even though we haven’t dont much for them. I feel like we are united under the name of K-pop (Seungho).”
“I would like to debut in the Philippines. I used to live there, so I think I would be comfortable promoting there. I would also be able to see my friends. But it’s weird, it’s hard to get work there. I would also like to go to Europe. How awesome would it be to hold an independent MBLAQ concert there (laughs) (Thunder).”
-You released an album just in time for the new year, what are your goals for 2012?
“I don’t know what kind of image we have now, but what we want is to never disappoint when we are on stage and to do our best. I want our fans to be able to trust us. We would also like for all of us to be healthy and promote well together as a team. Lee Joon is really sick with the flu right now and work is really hard for him (Mir).”
-Lee Joon, this is your year, the year of the Dragon. Any special goals or plans this year?
“Yes, this is my year, the year of the Dragon. The Black Dragon at that! I would like to work hard this year so that at the end, people will say, ‘This was quite the year for MBLAQ member Lee Joon’. There are a lot of things we planned for this year, and we will carry them out, one by one. I am confident that we will not disappoint our fans (Lee Joon).”
-And any specific goals for MBLAQ as a whole?
“We want to work hard to be #1. But to do that, we all need to be healthy and not lose our focus. We will be sure not to disappoint our fans, and will continue to show you the best of MBLAQ (G.O.).”
