With a powerful dance performance of Jang Woo Hyuk’s “Weekend Night”, 15-year-old Madison Gunst from Florida took 1st place at NY’s First Korea Day K-Pop Contest! The prize, a round-trip flight to Korea provided by Asiana Airlines.
Steven Clark took second place with a smooth cover of Navi’s “Heart Damage,” and Jaeyoon Chung claimed third with her powerful rendition of Lim Jeong Hee’s “Farewell Declaration.”
Despite the forecast predicting likely rain, the turnout for the first “NY K-Pop Contest” was beyond expectation, as more than 2,000 people showed up to witness history in the making. In response to the overwhelming love, the weather blessed NYC’s Second Annual “Korea Day” with a warm, sunny day.
Presented to New York City by Korean Cultural Service NY and allkpop, “Korea Day” took place at the Naumberg Bandshell in Central Park. The day was filled with events to share Korean culture, including free Korean food, Korean dramas (DramaFever.com), exciting performances by SOREA and other performers, and of course, the first “NY K-Pop Contest”.
