Girls' Generation, 2PM and 2NE1 take home awards from 2012 MTV Video Music Awards Japan

On June 23rd, the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards Japan was aired on television. Among the winners were popular K-Pop artists Girls' Generation, 2PM and 2NE1.

2PM took the award for "Best Group Video" for their Japanese track, "I'm Your Man," which was released on August 2011 as the group's 2nd Japanese single. The beastly group was up against artists Monkey Majik, Maroon5, pop rock band Ikimono-gakari and Coldplay.

2NE1, who debuted in Japan last year with their 1st single "Go Away," won "Best New Artist Video" over LMFAO, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, James Blake and fellow K-Pop peer, CNBLUE, with "I Am The Best." The winning track was released on 2NE1's Japanese release of the "Nolza" mini-album in September 2011.

SM Entertaiment girl group, Girls' Generation, also took home one of the biggest award of the night for "Best Album of the Year" for their 1st Japanese self-titled album. Girls' Generation released their 1st studio album on June 2011, with a repackaged album released in December 2011. As of January 2012, the album was reported to have sold over a million copies, getting million certified by the RIAJ. This made the group the 2nd Korean artists after SM Entertainment senior, BoA, to have sold a million copies of their Japanese album.

Girls' Generation was up against Lady Gaga, fellow K-Pop artist KARA, JUJU and Coldplay.
